Angiotensin receptor-neprylisin inhibitors (ARNIs)

Benefits

  • Decreases the strain on your heart
  • Helps people with heart failure live longer and feel better
  • Lowers the chance that you will be hospitalized to treat heart failure

Action

  • ARNIs are a combination of two medicines: an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and a neprilysin inhibitor
  • ARNIs lower the strain on your heart by helping your blood vessels stay open and by helping your body get rid of extra fluid. Here are the 2 ways these drugs do this:
    • They block harmful hormones that cause your blood vessels to constrict and your body to hold onto salt and water. By blocking these hormones, your blood vessels stay open and you get rid of extra fluid.
    • They prevent the breakdown of helpful hormones that cause your blood vessels to relax and your body to get rid of extra salt and water. With more of the helpful hormones around, your blood vessels stay open and you get rid of extra fluid.
