Women's H.E.A.L.Th

Six people making heart shapes with their hands

The Health, Exercise, Active Living and Therapeutic Lifestyle (H.E.A.L.Th) Program is designed for people who are being treated for breast cancer or recovering from breast cancer treatment.

Program Features

The H.E.A.L.Th program is up to 16 weeks long and includes:

  • A safe and effective exercise prescription
  • Education about topics related to exercise, breast cancer, and heart health
  • Support for people who are at different stages of their breast cancer treatment

The program is delivered by a team that includes a cardiac rehab supervisor (trained in kinesiology, physiotherapy, or nursing), physician, dietitian, social worker, and a psychologist. The program also hosts guest speakers such as a lymphedema specialist, a pelvic health specialist, and an oncologist to share their expertise and answer questions.

The program is delivered in small groups. The groups meet one time each week for a regularly scheduled class. Your group leader — a cardiac rehab supervisor (CRS) — will follow the education schedule that you receive with your program passport.

The Health Program has brought all of us together. To support, share, grow stronger, laugh…lots of laughter! And instead of going through this experience alone we have been able to lift our sometimes-bald heads high, stand up tall, and walk our way into the next chapter of our lives. Just walking…one foot in front of the other."
